Planning your first Muay Thai class in Phuket? Start with the kind of session you want, then check that camp’s booking and equipment rules. This guide includes seven Muay Thai gyms on Fitness Street, its side lanes and nearby in Chalong. Yak Yai and Phuket Fight Club are off Fitness Street and appear in their own section. It is for adult first-time visitors, not a ranking of every Phuket gym.
Choose an intro, a beginner group or a private lesson
- An intro: ask for the session specifically designed for a first visit. Check its date, registration deadline and what is included.
- A beginner group: check which part of the class is technique, conditioning or partner work. Tell the coach that this is your first session.
- A private lesson: explain the skills you want to learn and agree the booking, price and equipment in advance. A one-to-one booking does not automatically include gear or a group-class pass.
For the wider choice of gyms, use the Fitness Street directory. For accommodation, longer passes and the adjustable calculator, use the monthly cost guide.
Muay Thai gyms on Fitness Street and nearby
Location comes first: the first group covers Fitness Street and its side lanes; Yak Yai and Phuket Fight Club are off the street. Check the map in each venue profile when choosing your base. We have not estimated walking or driving times.
Official pages checked on 20 October 2026 support policy notes for six gyms. Dragon is included with its current first-visit details clearly unconfirmed. “Not stated” means the reviewed pages did not establish the policy, not that the service is unavailable.

Check the exceptions before paying
Yak Yai: its rates page sets group participation at 14+ and says sales cannot be refunded, held or transferred. This adult guide does not establish a child’s eligibility for a particular booking. Sunday-private prices differ between official pages, so no Sunday price is quoted here.
Tiger: the beginner programme lists shin pads as required, while the general FAQ calls them optional. Its private-session prices also differ between the FAQ and price page, which says listed prices exclude 7% VAT. Confirm equipment and the final quote; this guide does not resolve those differences.
Rattachai and Insee: Rattachai states a 3% credit-card fee; tax treatment and equipment inclusions are not established in the checked pages. Insee advertises training discounts without a clear expiry on the training page, so no promotional training price is repeated here. Its separately listed rental fees are shown above.
Lions: its pages give both 10- and 15-minute arrival advice and different wording about loaned versus rented gear. Confirm the instructions for your booking; this guide does not choose a universal cutoff or guarantee free equipment.
Phuket Fight Club: its published terms state that payments are non-refundable and rescheduling is at the camp’s discretion. Read the current terms before paying. This entry is for the main Phuket Fight Club listing; it does not establish PFC Performance’s policies.
Dragon: current first-session suitability, booking, gear and prices remain unconfirmed here. Its inclusion is not a verified promise of availability or a particular beginner programme.
What to arrange before your first class
- Confirm the exact session. Check the date, start time, class level and registration route. A gym’s opening hours are not necessarily its class timetable.
- Confirm your equipment list. Ask which items you must bring, what can be rented, the size of rental gloves and whether the fee covers each item or a set. Do not assume a mouthguard or hand wraps are supplied.
- Confirm payment and terms. Ask for the total including any tax, card fee and rental, plus cancellation, expiry and refund rules before buying a longer pass.
- Pack for the visit. Set aside comfortable training clothes, a towel, water and the equipment confirmed by the camp. Plan clean clothing and gear for any later session; our existing training-hygiene guide covers that topic separately.
Use the camp’s own directions for check-in. There is no universal arrival cutoff across these gyms.
Ask about technique and contact before the session
Make your first conversation specific. For example:
“This is my first Muay Thai class. I want to learn stance, basic movement and pad work. Does this session include partner contact or sparring? Can we agree what I will take part in before we start?”
If you are choosing a private lesson, add the skills you want help with and ask what the session includes. If you are not comfortable with the proposed activities, discuss another class or booking with the camp. A website description is not a guarantee about a particular coach, group size or session.
A flexible first week of bookings
This is an example of organising a visit, not a daily training prescription. It deliberately leaves time unbooked and does not set a suitable training dose for you.
| Part of the trip | Planning task |
|---|---|
| Before travel | Choose the first-session format and confirm entry, gear and payment. If choosing Yak Yai’s Monday intro, its Sunday registration deadline applies. |
| Arrival day | Locate the gym, check the latest timetable and arrange any equipment. Keep this separate from a promise to train immediately after travel. |
| First booked visit | Explain your experience and aims, agree the session’s activities and ask what the coach suggests discussing before any further booking. |
| Middle of the stay | Leave room for unbooked time. Decide whether you want another group, a specific private lesson or a different camp; confirm availability rather than assuming it. |
| Before buying a longer pass | Check its expiry, permitted sessions and cancellation terms against the days you actually have left. |
Practical questions about a first Muay Thai visit
Can I walk in without booking?
Use the camp-specific comparison above. One operator’s walk-in policy does not override another’s registration deadline. A private lesson can also have different rules from that camp’s group class.
Does beginner training mean no sparring?
No universal promise is established by these sources. Ask about the activities in your chosen session before paying, and explain what contact you are comfortable with.
Should I buy a week or month immediately?
Compare the pass with your actual trip dates and its written terms. A longer pass may include access you will not use. The cost guide and calculator help plan a longer stay; they do not reserve a place or guarantee a final quote.
What if I am travelling with children?
Start with the Fitness Street family guide and confirm the child’s age, class and supervision requirements directly with the operator. Adult entry rules cannot establish a child’s booking.
Sources, coverage and limits
This is desk research from the official operator pages linked above, observed on 20 October 2026. We have not claimed a visit, tested the coaching or ranked the camps. The seven-gym shortlist is a practical starting point, not complete coverage of Phuket. Operator policy evidence is available for six; Dragon’s current first-visit details remain unconfirmed. Availability, rental stock and final booking totals are not confirmed for your dates.
Missing arrival, rental, age or cancellation details stay unconfirmed. Conflicting private fees, Sunday availability, addresses and promotion deadlines have not been used to change existing venue or price records. We have not assumed that buying access to multiple daily classes makes that a suitable first-week schedule.
For a broader organised stay, compare the retreat and training-package guide. For this first visit, use the operator links to confirm the booking that fits your plans.
